Ok, I know it's a few days late, but apparently I've been really bad at blogging lately! Here's the 2008 recap:
January
- January 1st: Shadow breaks my nose. Happy New Years!
- January 13th: I get smacked in the nose again at a CERT drill and realize that my nose really is broken.
- January 17th: I started EMT school - so exciting!
February
- February 28th: My first of many encounters with the neighborhood turkies.
March
- March 8th: Houseboat weekend with Brigitte and Amber!
- March 15th: Mather Air Show Day One: lots of patients to practice on!
- March 16th: Mather Air Show Day Two: more patients!
- March 26th: My hospital rotation - a life changing experience!
April
- April 18th: Rivercats baseball game with Dad, Brigitte and Amber
- April 19-20th: CERT Mobex - disaster drill in Clovis
May
- May 10th: Kati graduates from UGA - Mom, Dad and I flew back for a fantastic weekend in Georgia!
- May 13th: NREMT exam - I passed and am officially an EMT!
- May 24th: EMT party - absolutely hilarious - everyone came dressed as some sort of victim... it was great!
June
- June 10th: Metro's CERT team is called up to help out with the local grass fires
- June 21st: Saved my first patient at a CERT event
July
- July 14th: Visited my customer in Houston. Hot and sticky. Ate more steak than a girl should!
- July 20th: Kati moves home from Georgia!
August
- August 8th: Joanna and Chris come to visit!
- The rest of August - Kati and I go to Germany, France, Italy and Greece... it's the trip of a lifetime!
September
- September 14th: Met Mike! :)
- September 24th: Had a close encounter with a tomato hornworm. Had to call Julie in for backup.
- September 26th: Went to the Neil Diamond concert with Kati!
October
- October 9th: Went to the New Kids On The Block concert with Julie, Mindy, Amanda and Chris.
- October 16th: Selected for the Sarah Weeden jury - little did I know it would last two months!
- October 31st: Halloween party!

- November 1st: Went to the Madonna concert with Adam and Eva!
- November 4th: Barak Obama is elected president
- November 26th: Thanksgiving vacation at Lake Almanor
- November 15th: Second Annual Friends Thanksgiving!

- December 31st: Mike's New Years Eve Party - LOTS of pig!
All in all, I'd say it was a fantastic year! Who can complain?!
Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! Mike's party was a blast - they roasted 120 pounds of pig! It took four of them just a few minutes to cut it all up (lots of practice apparently!). Here's a picture of the pig on the spit:
It was insanely delicious! The party was a blast!
As you probably know, today is my birthday. It's been fantastic... it's 2:30pm and I'm still in my jammies! I've watched a bunch of episodes of "ER" (thanks Mike!) and some "Friends" reruns. It's been wonderfully relaxing!
Last night Joanna and Chris stopped by on part of their Northern California vacation - I haven't seen them in quite a while (about 2 years!) since I went down to LA for my triathlon. For those of you who don't know, I went to USD and sang with both Jo and Chris and lived with Joanna at the end of college and for a few years after. I sang at their wedding and was a bridesmaid. I love them to pieces and was so happy that they decided to come by!
Part of their trip was through San Francisco and they brought me a present:
Yes, it's a gigantic loaf of sourdough bread from Boudin that is shaped like a crab. Isn't that the cutest thing ever? We had some of it for breakfast (that's right Mom, I ate crab legs!) and it's some of the best bread I've had - super soft on the inside and a little crusty on the outside. Yum!
It was so good to see Joanna and Chris again - it was like the good old days! I was sad to see them leave today but they were working on getting back down south before the Olympics starts tonight.
Tonight we're all headed out to see the Kauffman's band play at a bar in Old Roseville... I'm super excited! Tomorrow Derrek and Kimi come to town (I know, the Smithson hotel is officially open for business!) and we're going salsa dancing (ha! should be entertaining for all of those watching me try to move my hips!). I still can't believe that a week from Sunday we'll be leaving for Europe! That's insane to me! It seems like we've been planning for so long and now it's finally here!
What an awesome weekend! Friday afternoon I left work at about 12:15 and headed home. Brig picked me up and we headed for the hills - Tahoe! The drive was surprisingly short (only about two hours). Here are some pictures of the mountains on the way up:
The "cabin" we were staying in was beautiful. It turns out it was a two-story five-bedroom house - HUGE. We could have comfortably slept 20 people! The night we got there we ended up renting my snowboard and getting some gloves (go figure - mine were still packed because I thought I would have moved before I actually needed them). We had a yummy dinner (much like our family, the Mitchells firmly believe in having WAY too much food). Then we played a rousing game of Pictionary. Here's Brig and I:
We had such an amazing time! We snowboarded from about 9-noonish, then hung out in the lodge and ate lunch, then went back out and snowboarded until around 2. By then we were pooped and decided to head home before anyone got hurt. It was a beautiful day - sunny and warm. So warm that we were sweaty and I actually got a little sunburned. Here are the snowbunnies:
On Sunday we relaxed and hung out around the house. It backed up to a golf course that made for perfect sledding, so we spent some time going up and down the hill and building an anatomically correct snow woman.
