Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! Mike's party was a blast - they roasted 120 pounds of pig! It took four of them just a few minutes to cut it all up (lots of practice apparently!). Here's a picture of the pig on the spit:
It was insanely delicious! The party was a blast!
As you probably know, today is my birthday. It's been fantastic... it's 2:30pm and I'm still in my jammies! I've watched a bunch of episodes of "ER" (thanks Mike!) and some "Friends" reruns. It's been wonderfully relaxing!
Well, this is a couple days late... I thought I had figured out how to post from my Blackberry and thought I posted at the airport yesterday. I guess not. If one day you suddenly see a weird graduation post appear, that's it. :)
Major congratulations are in order to Kati! On Saturday she graduated from UGA with her Masters degree! I'm so proud of her! It was a really cool ceremony - they had a fantastic speaker that not only made it interesting, but also kept it short. I was so proud to see Kati walk across that stage - she's worked so hard for this degree! Here are some pictures of her with the parents:
We had a really fantastic (but way too short!) weekend! We held a BBQ in Kati's honor on Saturday evening - Derrek and his family came out and we had a wonderful time! We then went to the Cracker Barrel for Mother's Day brunch (ok, not gonna lie - we ate Cracker Barrel for breakfast every day we were there - it's too good not to eat there!). There were some AMAZING thunderstorms both nights I was there - I swear, I'm like a little kid when it comes to those - face all pressed to the glass, awake all night watching. I love them!
Here are some more miscellaneous pictures:
I'm sure that my parents have some more (better) pictures. As soon as I get them, I'll post them!
- January 2nd: My birthday. We went to the Kings game with the Mitchells and had an amazing time! Brigitte even bought me a birthday beer!
- January 12th: Justin Timberlake concert - absolutely amazing show. I love him.
- January 19th: My bank account was hacked and $2500 was stolen. Thank God Wells Fargo rocks and covered me!
- February 16th: Weekend trip to Tahoe. We played in the snow, went snowboarding and had a blast!
March
- March 10th: Christina Aguilera concert. It was a blast! We stayed with Adam and Eva for the weekend and had tons of fun at the concert - Christina was amazing!
- March 22nd: I moved into my first house! I can't believe that I was able to achieve one of my lifetime goals this early in life. It felt like it was never going to happen and then once it did, I was scared to death that I'd mess it up! Here I am,nine months later, still managing to make it work!
- April 1st: I got my first dog! I honestly can't remember life without Shadow. I love him so much and I don't know what I would do without him!
- May 19th: Brad Paisley concert. He put on a great show and we got to see Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler too!
- May 25th: Tiger Jam weekend. I met Tiger's mom, the drummer from Bon Jovi and had a blast with my dad. It was an amazing weekend!
- June 9th: Week-long trip to Georgia. It was a blast and always fun to hang out with Kati!
- June 24th: Cody lost his short battle with leukemia. One of the worst days of my life.
- July 1st: We had a surprise party for Mom's 50th birthday! She had absolutely no idea and actually started crying when she saw her family from the Bay Area! We also got Darcy this day (which is why Mom had no clue!).
- July 7th: My housewarming party! I waited until I had the yard in and Kati was home to have the party. It was tropical themed and my friends did not disappoint! Everyone came dressed in Hawaiian shirts and we had an absolute blast!
- July 20th: Weekend camping trip. We took the boat, a bunch of tents and lots of beer. Who could ask for a better trip?
- Last Week of July: Lake Almanor. The weather was awesome, the lake was beautiful and we caught tons of fish! It was the first time we didn't have Cody, which was really weird!
- August 6th: Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert. They're amazing and make you want to find love like that!
- Last Week of August: Lake Alamanor. I spent the entire week really working on my waterskiing. This is one of the first years that I was able to do some amazing spray work outside the wake!
- Sometime in late August: Mom and Dad got sweet little Tucker!
- September 14th: Weekend at the houseboat. Brigitte learned to drive the houseboat this weekend - it was the first time we all went up without "the adults". We had such an amazing time!
- September 25th: Justin Timberlake Concert (yes, the second one). As always, his show was amazing and I'd pay to see a third one!)
- October 12th: Brooks & Dunn/Alan Jackson concert. The year of concerts continues. We sat in the freezing cold rain for this one - it was definitely worth it though!
- October 20th: SCSO Lerner and Lowe concert. As always, the Broadway concerts are totally fun to do (yeah for choreography!) and get us some wonderful publicity!
- November 10th: The First Annual Friends Thanksgiving. We had such a blast! It was so wonderful to have everyone sit down and share a meal. I was amazed at how well the boys cook too!
- November 17th: I graduated from the Sacramento Metro Fire CERT program. It was an amazing class to take part in and I feel honored to be a part of such a dedicated group!
- November 22nd: The Fourth Annual Hullaballo. As always, Adam and Eva put together a fantastic spread! We had the most amazing time! Hooray for turkey!
December
- December 8th: SCSO Home for the Holidays concert. It's one of my favorites each year! Adam and Eva always come out and we have a fantastic weekend together!
So, I'm here in lovely Georgia. Kati wasn't feeling well today and so while she took a little nap I headed down to the pool to work on my "tan" (I actually have lines - I'm so proud!). I'm laying there reading and sunning when a group of guys comes and takes over the lawn chairs next to me. I can't help but over hear their conversation (my ear is drawn to that crazy drawl!) - there is one that smokes and another that chews. They are having this serious debate over which one is healthier - smoking or chewing. Here's a brief rundown:
Chewing Southern Boy: Chewing is much better for you - you end up with cancer in your mouth and all they do is take off your lip.
Smoking Southern Boy: No way! Smoking is better - you get cancer a lot faster when you chew. At least when you smoke it takes years to get lung cancer.
Chewing Southern Boy: Well, you don't really need your lip - you need your lungs.
Smoking Southern Boy: How are you going to find a girl with no lip?
Chewing Southern Boy: Hopefully I'll get married before I lose my lip.
I really had to struggle not to laugh through most of this - as did the rest of their friends, but they were dang serious! I'm so glad I live in the wonderful state of California where smoking is all but banned!
