This weekend was a marathon weekend (no pun intended)! Friday night, Mike and I went to the Tesla concert. I didn't really know who they were, but it was an awesome show... I really like their music. In fact, I might get their new CD... there were some great songs that they played at the show and I liked them a lot! Here's Mike and I chillin' at the show:
That crazy look in my eyes is because I ran eight miles earlier in the day thinking I'd have lots of recovery time sitting at the show. As it turns out, we had general admission tickets, so we were standing the whole time. Now, some of the best shows I've seen have been standing, but definitely not after eight miles!
On Saturday we went to the Make-A-Wish Food & Wine Festival. Me, Mike, Kati, Brigitte, Dan, Jeremy, Steve, J and Jen all ended up going. Kati had the fantastic idea of renting a limo so that no one had to drive. Our limo driver dropped us off at the wrong place, but we got a cool picture in front of an old car:
The event itself was great - you paid $85 to get in and they had 60 wineries and 60 local restaurants offering you all the food and drink you could possibly consume. I think it's safe to say that we all drank our $85 dollars worth! Here's me a few drinks (and some delicious truffles) in:
This afternoon we had a Super Bowl party at my house. It was a blast! I've been craving all things summer, so I barbequed chicken, corn on the cob and we made pasta salad. It hit the spot! I thought the commericals were so-so. This year really didn't seem to have a ton of great ones. The group seemed to like a couple - here are the ones that made us laugh. Apparently we like when people get smacked:
As well as cartoons:
And finally, ones about hating work:
Marathon Update
Miles This Week: 17
Total Miles: 65
Well, let me start off with saying I was not totally impressed with this year's Super Bowl ads. In fact, with the exception of maybe five or six ads, I think most of them were down right stupid (seriously, a baby barfing while trading stocks online? I know, my dad loved it, so maybe it just wasn't targeted for my demographic...). Here are the top two ads I loved this year:
Budweiser Clydesdale Team Commercial
(for some reason the video won't embed on this one... you'll have to click the link.
Budweiser always manages to come up with some funny stuff... this one makes you sad and then makes you laugh. Gotta love something that does that in under a minute.
The Bridgestone Tires commercial is just plain funny. I love the screaming bug.
Other than exciting football (how 'bout that 4th quarter?!) not much else is new hear. Work, sing, school, dog training. Rinse and repeat.
Well, in time honored family tradition, Mom and I sat down today to watch the Super Bowl. But really, it's not about football for our family, it's about the ads. There's this great website, www.adbowl.com, that provides a list of the ads before the game. You print out a little score card and rank each ad on a scale of one to five, one being a fumble and five being a touchdown. It's a lot of fun and you find yourself trying to find breaks between commercial breaks to do things like get food and go to the bathroom. After the game you go back to the Ad Bowl website and enter your ratings. The day after, the website publishes the top commercials. It's pretty fun! My favorite commercial this year is a tie. One being the Budweiser "Rock, Paper, Scissors" commercial (http://www.ifilm.com/video/2819647) and the other being the Blockbuster Mouse Ad (http://www.ifilm.com/video/2819648). All in all, I thought the commercials were a little weak this year.
The half time show was AMAZING. All hail Prince. I'm blown away every time I see or hear him. Mom and I were talking about how you look at him and think he's going to do something weird, but he never really does. Instead, he sings and plays just about every instrument as if it were completely easy and didn't require any effort on his part. Awesome, awesome show.
And finally, there was the football game itself. I have to admit, I was sort of rooting for the Bears. The opening play was absolutely mind blowing... for the first time in Super Bowl history someone returned the kick off for a touchdown! Alas, that sort of luck didn't stick with the Bears. The Colts played a pretty darned good game and I think Peyton Manning definitely deserved the MVP award. It was a day for Super Bowl history - the first time two black coaches played against each other, the first time a black coach has won the Super Bowl (great job Tony Dungy - you have to love a man that won't raise his voice or swear at his team), the first time a player returned the opening kick for a touchdown and the first time it's rained at a Super Bowl game.
I spent the rest of the day relaxing and running a few errands. It was the first day in a while that I haven't had anything to do all day long, so I hit up Target, Dimple Records, went for a run, took Cody on two walks and squeezed in a nap. It was a lovely day!
I have a confession to make. Yesterday, I cheated on my hairdresser. Don't get me wrong, I still love him to pieces, but I just needed a little change. God, how bad does that sound? Here's how it all started. I colored my hair back in December on my own - just a little touch up. I had figured that if I waited long enough, he wouldn't know the difference and I could just go back to him for trims. Well, then I realized that, hey, I'm going to buy a house, and haircuts aren't cheap. The more I thought about it, the smarter it sounded - just go to Supercuts. I've always had good luck there because I have pretty easy to cut hair. Over the past few weeks I've been thinking about cutting my hair, just because when it's long I never end up doing anything with it and it just hangs there. Not to mention that it takes 25 minutes to dry at the length it was at yesterday, and quite frankly, at 5:30am 25 minutes is a long time. So, on impulse, I swung by Supercuts after work (not really impulse since I had thought it through, but you get the drift). About 30 minutes later I walked out with my signature shoulder length bob and $25 poorer. Definitely less pain than my $50-$60 haircuts. She did a dang good job - it's short enough to bob under but long enough to get into a ponytail. Why do I feel like I totally betrayed my hairdresser? I actually had this panicked moment where I wondered if he was going to call me because he hasn't seen me in a while and to tell me that I would probably have split ends if I didn't come in soon - then what would I do?!
Anyways, the rest of this weekend has been nice so far. I went to the movies to see "Because I Said So". Cute movie, would probably wait for the DVD, but it was a fun night out with Brigitte and Amber. I went to kickboxing this morning and got in a good nap this afternoon. I woke up from the nap with a monster headache that I haven't been able to get rid of, so I'm planning on turning in a little early tonight. Tomorrow is the ever exciting Super Bowl and I can't wait to see all the ads!
